Each branch represents a new resonator in a different amplitude, frequency, and decay, giving you some very interesting results. PitchLoop89 is another powerful Max Device with a total of 18 presets, which allows you to create cool glitch effects, pitchy shimmers, and awesome vibrato.

This Ableton plugin is inspired by the DHM 89 pitch-shifting delay from but comes with many new features for ultimate effect control. Its foundation stems from two pitch-shifting delays and a multitude of effect controls.

Use vibrato, position the two delays differently in different pitches, and control the pitch-bending with the LFOs. The result is an out-of worldly sound that works as well on experimental vocals as drums and layering leads.

The synth module is simple to use but very powerful and works great for basses. The Quad takes four of the MSE synths and stacks them together for a richer sound, and the SEQ8 is an analog-style step sequencer with eight steps and swing that you can use with both software and hardware synths. Set your sequencer, and your sound will play along with your chosen set of notes or chords — with variable pulse counts, time, swing, and play direction parameters.

Finally, you get a beautiful set of powerfully creative delays, reverbs, and saturation as audio effects. The saturator or sound texture device Color is especially interesting.

Use it to introduce vinyl noises, hiss, wobble, analog warmth, and the wobble you hear in old-style music. It sounds remarkably realistic and gives your track an instant vintage feel. Do you want to introduce more surprises in your music? Then you need the Probability Pack — a creative set of sequencers that give your sounds probability and a chance of interesting things happening.

In five Max Devices and 60 presets, you can control everything from the probability of surprise melodic notes to rhythm and arpeggiators.

Each of these devices allows you to set your key, allowing you to control your randomness completely. Step Divider and Dr. Chaos are two other sequencers that introduce unpredictability or glitchy and chaotic results. Perfect if you make darker-style music or want to explore new ideas. This effort continues even as you read these lines Please check your ableton. It is possible to change the selection of automation and take lane headers using the up and down arrow keys.

The lane header selection can also be extended using Shift and the up and down arrow keys. When using the Zoom to Time Selection command in the Arrangement, Live now only zooms horizontally at first. When using the command a second time without changing the time selection , Live then zooms vertically as well.

Upon using the command a third time, the Arrangement returns to the first vertical zoom state. You can use the left arrow key to navigate from an automation lane or take lane to the main track, this will fold the lanes as well. You can also use the left arrow key to navigate from tracks in a group to the main Group Track. You can solo tracks with the S key and arm tracks with the C key when take lane headers or automation lane headers are selected.

A Templates label see 5. A Grooves label see Chapter 13 has also been added. Devices in the Audio Effects label are now grouped into folders. When viewing and expanding Live Sets in the browser, you will see a new Devices icon for device chains on a track that contain at least one device.

In the first captured MIDI clip in an empty set with the transport stopped , if the detected loop is eight bars or less, the first played note is considered the start of the loop. When only one note is played in the first captured MIDI clip in an empty set with the transport stopped , the loop boundaries are set to the note start and end, and the tempo is accordingly calculated, resulting in a one, two, four, or eight bar loop. This is particularly useful when playing a rhythmical sample with a single MIDI note.

Clip View properties see 8. Clip View properties can also be arranged automatically, which switches between the horizontal and vertical views depending on the height of the Clip View area. The Reverse and Edit buttons are now positioned next to each other. When multiple audio clips with different Clip Gain values are selected, the value range is shown with split triangle handles on the Clip Gain slider.

Introduced comping see Chapter 18 in the Arrangement View. Comping makes it possible to pick the best moments of each recorded performance, and combine them into a composite track.

You can record multiple takes of a musical performance without stopping recording. Live will then create and organize individual takes from this recorded material, allowing you to piece your favorite parts together.

You can also drag samples from your library and use comping as a creative sample-chopping tool. The CPU meter see Alternatively, the CPU meter can also be switched off entirely.

Simply put, the difference between the two is how much computer memory the plugin can utilize. While a bit version of a plugin and a DAW can only access 4GB of computer memory, a bit version can access 1 exabyte — or in other words, 1 gigabytes of computer memory.

And once you reach that limit, Ableton crashes. As a result, you get fewer crashes and more stable experience. The good news is that Ableton has discontinued its older bit version, leaving only the new, improved bit version: Live 10 and above. So if you’re running an older version of Live, your VST-plugins must be in bits to run. And if you’re running Live 10 and above — you need bit plugins.

Installing VST plugins in Ableton for the first time might not be as straightforward as you would think. When you’re starting fresh and enter the world of music production, even the term “VST” is foreign, let alone the mentions of bits and dedicated plugin folders. But don’t worry, just follow the guide below, and you’ll know how to install your VST plugins in no time. Whether it’s a free or paid VST plugin, it will usually come with an installer in an executable format.

Follow the instructions and click through the installer until you reach the step where you choose the install destination path. This device allows for re-ordering sample playback in sync with Max or Live’s transport. Sampler Instrument — A polyphonic sampler instrument with time-stretching. Simple Pitch Shifter — A simple stereo pitch shifter. We’ve added a double LFO which acts as a pitch vibrato. Additionally, the device inserts the pitch transposer into a delay line to create the famous “harmonizer” sound.

Dual Harmonizer — A dual-mono pitch shifter with vibrato and feedback. The detected pitch can be monitored using a simple monophonic synthesizer. Mono Vocoder — A dual-mono vocoder.
